Reporting directly to the group’s CFO, the Tax Director directs the Tax Team. This team heads a vital tax function spread across Flutter Group’s offices in London, Dublin, Leeds, and the Isle of Man. The Group operates internationally in numerous locations. The Tax Team works in close cooperation with the business to manage the Group’s tax responsibilities.

Our group dedicated to tax technology is essential for ensuring adherence to regulations and improving tax processes using advanced technology. The Tax Technology team belongs to the Group’s Finance Systems team but collaborates closely with the global Tax function. It is led by the Associate Director of Tax Technology.

Role Overview:

This role will mainly lead all automation efforts related to Tax. You will work closely with teams across Group Finance, the EPM finance group, the Compliance & Reporting tax team, and other important collaborators in the business. These include members from IT, data teams, and Finance teams in the Group's overseas locations.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Take charge of all automation activities concerning Tax.

  • Offer expertise in finance ERP, tax compliance, and reporting software. Lead improvement projects in these areas and provide mentorship to team members involved.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Tax Technology and other team members to define and deliver a specific roadmap to provide an outstanding tax reporting solution.

  • Lead multiple tax technology projects, including defining requirements, testing, configuration, and managing data, ensuring alignment with team priorities.

  • Manage senior collaborators, including working closely with the Tax team to define tax requirements and necessary system updates.

  • Support the Tax teams through key cycles e.g. year end, quarterly reporting, indirect tax returns.

  • Proactively promote and develop tax use cases across systems, to deliver tax automation.

  • Stay informed about the newest tax rules and technology developments to guarantee the company stays compliant and competitive.

  • Continue to develop skills in relevant tax technology areas such as AI, Data Science, RPA and Machine Learning.

  • Assist in the development and deployment of tax technology solutions alongside the rest of the tax technology team.

  • Deliver training and assistance to team members.

  • Act as a mentor and support for junior team members, including assisting in developing project and collaborator management skills

How you will accomplish it

  • Minimum of 8-10 years in tax technology

  • Accountancy and/or Tax qualifications are preferential; understanding of general accounting principles and good commercial awareness essential

  • Solid knowledge of tax laws and compliance requirements.

  • Proficient in tax software solutions (Oracle EPM including TRCs a strong preference, but experience in other software encouraged e.g. Oracle ERP, Vertex, e-invoicing, Edge)

  • Experience in a similar role in-house or a large advisory firm. We are keen to hear from tax technology candidates with a strong tax technical background in either direct or indirect taxes.

  • Experience working with low code platforms like Alteryx or UI Path is preferred but not required

  • Experience working with Python/Java is preferred but not required

  • Excellent project management skills, with experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with collaborators at all levels, including for non-finance audiences

  • Analytical approach with strong problem-solving abilities

  • Agile and flexible, learning quickly when faced with new situations

  • Well organised and thorough, with close attention to detail and a proactive drive for continuous improvement

  • Proactively takes ownership of workstreams, ensuring timely delivery to a high standard and manages expectations of collaborators

  • Prefer candidates who have guided junior team members, though it is not mandatory
